Singapore is a small island state located in South East Asia, and situated on the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula, 137 Kilometers north of the equator. The Republic of Singapore is a democracy with a committment to a muli-national society XXXXX. Singapore is a highly populated island, with a population of 4.5 million. Singapore has a tropical rainforest climate with no distinct seasons. Its climate is characterised by uniform temperature and pressure, high humidity and abundant rainfall. The national languages are English,Malay, Mandarin, Tamil although many other languages are spoken given the multi-national nature of the population. The currency is the Malaysian Ringgit.
The national economy belies the country's size, ranking 22nd in GDP - $28,368 ppp), and having the 25th highest HDI Index in the world. National religons include Budhism 42.5%, Islam 14.9%, Taoism 8.5%, Hinduism 4%, Christian 15%, and none approximtaley 15%.
